10 years already!

November 2017 marks the tenth anniversary of the start of my collaboration with the immense Italian harpsichordist Paola Erdas.

We have made quite a collection of movies together since, and we are likely to do live concerts very soon, in Trieste, Italy.

Several of our movies have been selected by…

Master Baffler: How Philip Guston Gave Form to Doubt

“Paul Valery once said that a bad poem is one that vanishes into meaning,” Philip Guston told an interviewer in 1966, adding, “In a painting in which this is a room, this is a chair, this is a head, the imagery does not exist — it vanishes into recognition…. I want my work to include more.”

Drawing, a fast disappearing art form.

My latest article has recently been published by the Society for Animation Studies, it was also printed in the Melbourne International Animation Festival catalogue which was held a few weeks ago.

It examines important “steps” in the genesis of an image, and it offers avenues to explore to people who either have approached drawing superficially, or only know the “procedural" aspect of digital art.…

New album on Vimeo: "Mostly with piano(s) (and pianists)"

Here’s a collection of favourite pieces of mine done in collaboration with some remarkable musicians, pianists, yes, but most of them composers as well: Mostly with piano(s) (and pianists)…

Can (should) Animation reach beyond the “entertainment dependency?”

Here’s my third blog entry at Animation Studies, it has a lot to do with the place of Visual Music (and Experimental/Abstract Animation) in the world of Animation festivals: http://blog.animationstudies.org/?p=1052…

Jean, I am composer and visual artist colleague of Dennis Miller's. Since I began making my own videos, I have known your work. It is a model for me; thank you.

I am part of the Rocky Neck Art Colony, Gloucester, MA, and would like to mount a show of ANIMATION STILLS (matted and framed) in January of 2014. If possible, I would like to show stills but also the animations they are taken from.  I am hoping that you will participate. It's not easy to make it happen because I need funding. I also need more names of young animators. Two questions: 1) are you interested in participating in such a show? 2) what colleagues, especially young animators (who are still looking for exposure) could you name? For my own work, please go to www.ottolaske.com

I'll be in touch again if I don't hear from you.

Otto
