Stabat Mater from Jean Detheux on Vimeo.
Yet another collaboration with Paola Erdas (http://www.vimeo.com/tag:paolaerdas).
The previous one (http://www.vimeo.com/25819903) was a tragic lullaby sung by Mary to her baby Jesus, this one is taking place as she is standing ("Stabat Mater") by the cross.
The music is sung by Lia Serafini, with the Janas Ensemble conducted from the harpsichord by Paola Erdas (http://www.paolaerdas.it/).
Music composed by Giovanni Felice Sances (circa 1600 - 1679).
An old friend, former drawing student of mine, may have found a key for entering the work, which can be difficult at times. She was familiar with my natural media work, but her first encounter with my digital "time-art" brought this remark:
"My questions, at first, were around the movement between the sound/music and the imagings.
The movement /relationship felt uncertain, then as I kept a soft eye on the paintings moving--all worked...together."
"...a soft eye..."
"Just looking" as distinct from "looking for..."
As with my natural media work, this is much more about uncovering bits of "not-doing" than exhibiting any evidence of "control" and/or intentional action...
I dedicate this piece to the memory of Cy Twombly, who died recently (July 5, 2011).
