The Visual Music Village

for Visual Music Artists, Writers, and Venues

This sketch is based on a collection of clips I recently found in a forgotten folder.
Those clips had been made in preparation for a live concert, presented in Beirut, Lebanon, during the Al Bustan festival in 2008.
The musicians I worked with were Hubl Greiner, Roman Bunka, Mohamed Badawi and the shaman singer Stepanida Borisova.
As I arrived at the Beirut airport, I discovered that half of my luggage had been lost, with most of my video gear.
I only had with me, at most, 20% of my prepared material on a couple of external hard drives, my Mac laptop, but no video mixer, and very little of what I was counting on to do the show.
I made do with what I had and was very fortunate to see that it actually worked well (no small thanks to the magnificent music).
What a concert!
When back in Montreal, I finally recovered my luggage, everything was in it, intact.
So I sent DVDs with the material I had prepared for the show to Hubl Greiner, so that he would have a sense of what could have been.
He later suggested I make a film with that material, adapting it to his "Inemuri" CD (http://www.hulu.de/en/electronic_music/inemuri/inemuri.html) as he felt my images and that music were compatible.
He was right (part 1 http://vimeo.com/17780430, part 2 http://vimeo.com/17882724 and part 3 http://vimeo.com/18117966)

For the sake of those good memories, I played with the found clips and made this quick sketch, using an excerpt of the "Udagan Yryta" song found on the TranceSiberia CD described here http://www.hulu.de/en/trance_siberia/trance_siberia1.htm.
This sketch connects with other pieces I made with Hubl and Stepanida (http://vimeo.com/29561908) but also, with Stepanida, Thierry Van Roy and Melanie Gabriel (http://vimeo.com/29478079).
I hope to be able to work again in real time with Hubl, Roman, Mohamed and Stepanida, hopefully enjoying the use of all my gear then!
