for Visual Music Artists, Writers, and Venues
This is the second version of this piece, with music magnificently interpreted by Paola Erdas (http://www.paolaerdas.it/).
First version is here: https://vimeo.com/22810432
Here’s an album of movies done in collaboration with Paola: https://vimeo.com/album/2985377
Attempting to make visible what Paola's playing evokes in me, navigating that sensitive and elusive space between being "too close to" and "too far from" the music is very demanding. If Norman McLaren said that "animation is what happens between the frames," Visual Music is likely what happens between the music and the images, and that dialogue is often overwhelmed either by the music, or the images...
Paola and I are preparing for a live images - music concert, a concert that will take place in Trieste on December 12, 2018.
In order to be fully ready for that momentous event (we’ve been collaborating for over 10 years, but this will be our first meeting in person and of course, our first live concert, Paola lives in Trieste, Italy, I in Montréal, Québec), I need a recent laptop (a MacBook Pro), new or used, capable of sustaining the demands of my generating and mixing images sequences in real time. If I have the proper tools for working in my studio (or in venues which are within driving distances), I do not have proper equipment that could travel with me by plane, nor the means to acquire it on my own.
I am therefore conducting a fundraiser, between October 10 and November 10, 2018, I hope to be able to raise enough money to at least buy the hardware needed t make the most of that concert.
Here’s where you can read more about the fundraiser, and hopefully contribute to it (no donation is too small or too big): https://theeyelistens.net
Thank you (merci, le texte est disponible ne français également)
The music, "Pavana glosada," is by António de Cabezón.
