The Visual Music Village

for Visual Music Artists, Writers, and Venues

This is the second version of this piece, the first one is here: http://vimeo.com/44883062
I met Jean René when he took part in the recording of the music of my first NFB film, "Liaisons" (nfb.ca/film/liaisons_fr please use the 1080p quality option for best results)
Hearing Jean warming up before a recording session started, I was struck by the presence, warmth and quality of his viola playing. I have wanted to again work with him ever since.
I asked him if he would be interested in making a "chaconne for viola solo" for me and in response, he sent me his "Fammi" CD (actuellecd.com/fr/cat/et_08/).
Immense music from an exceptional musician, am going to enjoy working with/for/from it for a long time to come.
"Fammi" is the second piece I do with music from the CD of the same name, the other one ("Prune") is here vimeo.com/43402313
Since starting working digitally, I have fought against the "look" computers tend to impose on images, too clean, not enough "juices," not "organic" enough.
The kind of "dirt" I enjoy in my images seems to be mirrored by the magnificent viola of Jean René.
His work with "simple" phrases is also related to my working, again and again, with sequences of images that "make (some kind of) sense" to me.
My fascination with the "always-already-there" finds a profound resonance with the way Jean René's music evolves.
This is very very far from "pixels/notes pushing" and gratuitous manipulation of data, it seems at once very simple, yet deep.

Festival ready (HD 720p digital file, Apple ProRes 422 HQ or. h.264)
