for Visual Music Artists, Writers, and Venues
In preparation for upcoming live images - music concerts, I am eagerly practising real-time image/video generation and mixing, and am having a ball.
I practise with musics I know will be performed in those concerts, but also with music I have wanted to work with for a long time, or music that surfaces spontaneously and becomes unavoidable.
This music, Jim Hall’s arrangement of Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez” just would not let me ignore it, it forced me to work with/for/to it.
Given this piece is almost 20 minutes long, I had to compress it heavily in order to fit in my Vimeo account 5 GB file limit.
This version is in 720p while the original is in 1080p and reads at a hefty 47 GB, so much is lost along the way, not to mention that Vimeo adds its own compression to my already heavily compressed video...
Jim Hall and his sextet have done a magnificent job with Rodrigo’s composition, I kept thinking of Fritz Perls’ “Don’t push the river - it flows by itself!" during the many hours I lived with it, nothing is forced, the music flows indeed.
Most of the visual material used in the making of this piece was generated in real-time, captured, and brought into my editing application (Final Cut Pro X).
I am fascinated by all that can happen as if “by accident”, and I enjoy the results of those “accidents” much more than anything I could/can do “intentionally”.
During my many decades working as a natural media painter (no longer permitted by serious allergies), I already knew much about this process, but I am thrilled to see that it is not only at work in “time art” as well, I am finding/granted ways of working that make accessing those “fortuitous accidents” much more readily.
