As curator of the "Mercredimusics" at Montréal's Casa Obscura, Jean Derome (flutes, saxophones and various objets) invites :
Jean Detheux (improvised "animated" images)
Frank Martel (thérémine)
Jacques Gravel (trombone)
Scott Thomson (trombone)
Gabriel Rivest (tuba)
Jean Detheux and Jean Derome have collaborated many times, be that in films (NFB and other), or live performances.
The addition of the thérémine to the group of instruments is very meaningful to Jean Detheux as he saw the potential of "animation" as a continuation of his work as a painter when viewing the works of Mary Ellen Bute many years ago. Bute had been in contact (and worked) with Léon Theremin, no doubt seeing the connections between her approach to film and Theremin's approach to music.
This will be Detheux's first opportunity to work in collaboration with an instrument that played a significant role in his decision to embark on the "time-art" path.
