Event Description

Aestoria” has been selected by the Melbourne International Animation Festival (MIAF), a festival which has been very faithful to my work.

With the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois, it holds the record for screening samples of my work (often more than one movie at a time) each and every year since 2006.

It is worth noting that Malcolm Turner, the director of MIAF, has created a special programme, Driven by Music (3 cheers for Visual Music) in order to present movies that are longer than the usual fare, especially when dealing with “abstract” or “experimental” movies, something that greatly pleases me as I have long been deploring the animation festival world’s dependency on the entertainment agenda (here’s an article focusing on just that).

Here’s the “Driven by Music” programme:

Citirama | Terry Trickett: UK, 13'07, 2016
Five: Moving Stormily | Team Five With Max Hattler: Hong Kong, 14'34, 2016
Aestoria  | Jean Detheux: Canada, 14'08, 2016
Running Under Bridges  | Jo Ganter: UK, 12'45, 2016

The music of “Aestoria” is a tribute to Astor Piazzolla  composed by Igor Tkachenko, the remarkable musician with whom I now have done three movies (there will be more).
