The Visual Music Village

for Visual Music Artists, Writers, and Venues

Philip Guston's process is so far from the anal retentive conceptual BS we are inundated with today. And much of that BS can be attributed to “art” schools, where the lie that is being taught posits “knowing what to do before doing it" as absolutely necessary.
For Guston and his colleagues, it was, no, IS, the absolute opposite of being creative. The key is to become able, willing, of working “by way of not knowing.”
The rest is only pretending to be art, “camp” as my friend (and Philip Guston’s) Mercedes Matter used to call it. (If interested, read this: http://blog.animationstudies.org/?p=680)
