20.sept.2008

A performance of improvised electro-acoustic music in interaction with kinetic ambient animations by Mika Pontecorvo (Flute, Live electronc processing/MaxMSP) and Adriane Pontecorvo (Cello)

This performance will include excerpts from the movements entitled BLIPVERT/SUBVERT (Due), CHOREO (Qua), and a full performance of the movement AQUA (Tre).

These are early results of a Kinetic Ambient Fiction Engine Architecture (KAFEA) being designed/developed by Mika with Neal Elzenga. Tonight's performance utilizes source imagery from the artwork of Artist/Writer Professor Meg Schoerke of San Francisco State Univerwity.

The KAFEA system is a follow-on from Pontecorvo and Elzenga's earlier generative meta-design concepts entitled 'Arties', first presented at the AISB'99 Symposium on Creative Evolutionary Systems in Edinburgh, UK in 1999 and refined for the Generative Arts '99 Conference in Milan that same year.

Background

Mika studied composition with and worked as an assistant under, Electronic Music Pioneer, the late Professor Vladimir Ussachevsky. Mika's other work includes Research and Development in artificial intelligence, virtual environments, and interactive media. Most recently this research has focused on the application of simulated evolutionary systems and other Complex Adaptive Systems (CAS) concepts to design, arts, and product ideation.

Adriane's Cello work began with performing live improvised film scores in a arabic-jazz-psychedelic fusion band in 2004. She has performed in a number of noise and experimental rock units since that time.

They are both currently members of the experimental ensembles Cartoon Justice and Theory Garden.
