SUMMARY:Visual Music at New Nothing, San Francisco, Oct. 14
DESCRIPTION:VISUAL MUSIC AT NEW NOTHING THEATER PRESENTS SHALO P AND P
AUL CLIPSON WITH JOSHUA CHURCHILL\n\nThe Visual Music series at New No
thing Theater continues with multi-media artist Shalo P and filmmaker
Paul Clipson with sound artist Joshua Churchill. The presentation take
s place Wednesday, October 14, at 8 pm. New Nothing Theater is located
at 16 Sherman Street off Fulton Street between 6th and 7th Streets in
San Francisco. Admission is free.\n\nPaul Clipson makes films in Supe
r8. Many of his films are the result of collaborations with sound arti
sts or groups, such as Tarentel, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma and Joshua Church
ill, all of whose methods of experimenting with sound and instrumentat
ion, incorporating improvisation, mistakes and accidents into live per
formances and recordings, have greatly influenced his work. He initial
ly creates 40-60 minute films, shooting rapidly to collect specific th
ematic and formal elements as they occur to him. Over time, shorter fi
lm pieces, such as ECHO PARK (2007) or SPHINX ON THE SEINE (2008), are
carefully created from this work, utilizing the accidental, unexpecte
d juxtapositions of sound and image that have been discovered live.\n\
nArtist and musician Joshua Churchill performs experimental music for
guitar and electronics. Much of his performance and recording work inv
olves careful transposition and recontextualization of familiar (and u
nfamiliar) sounds. Through subtle processing, looping, and layering, t
he sounds he creates and affects constantly transform and fade into on
e another, losing their original voices and adopting new ones along th
 e way.\n\nShalo P is a multi-media artist residing in San Francisco. H
aving worked and collaborated with various Bay Area artists, instituti
ons and collectives (with such notables as George Kuchar, Dale Hoyt, T
HE WALL OF FIRE and Craig Baldwin's Other Cinema), he has gained a cul
t following of his own with his TELEVISION FOR GHOSTS projects (that s
pread themselves out in various media, recounting a collapse in collec
tive memory via troubled digital weather) and also for his striking li
ve performances involving light and sound. When asked what he does in
particular he usually just says he is \"surveying the digital apocalyp
se and embellishing it with rainbows\".\n\nFor more information visit
