"In The Moog" (U-Arts Animation)

This is a rotoscoped animation created by the students of my 2013 "Object Animation" class at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia PA. The source material was a 16mm print of a music video created by my father's company Record on Film, in 1969 that was a medley of electronic music performed by Richard Hyman on a Moog synthesizer.

"Summertime" (U-Arts Animation)

This rotoscoped animation created in my 2012 U-Arts Animation ll class was derived from a music video for the group Mungo Jerry of their #1 hit song "In the Summertime". The live action was shot in 1970 by my father's company Record on Film. I used the 16mm film print of the video to load into an Oxberry animation stand camera for the students in the class to rotoscope from. I encouraged them to capture the essence of each frame as quickly as possible and concentrate on filling in as much as possible with their imaginations. Some of the students then brought their scanned drawings into Flash or After Effects in order to add the finishing touches, the rest were captured via istopmotion software.

"A Musical Canon"

A Musical Canon (performed by cows) is one more "Sesame Street" spot that I worked on as technical director and cameraman, produced through Peter Wallach Enterprises by Marie Plagianos. Old fashioned rotoscoping was used in conjunction with traditional cel animation and in camera traveling mattes bi-packed in an Oxberry animation stand to create the illusion of singing cows.

This animation group project was derived from one of my father's "Record on Film" music videos shot on 16mm circa 1968 of a British pop band called The Third Rail. Rotoscoped on an Oxberry animation stand by the students of my "Animation ll" class at U-Arts in 2007 this film was featured in The Philadelphia International Film Festival in 2008.
