"Ikea, Manhattan" (Cardboard Jungle)

This footage was shot with my video lunchbox during the production for one of two spots produced by Humble Films in NYC for the new Ikea mega-store which was then soon to be opened in Red Hook Brooklyn. Peter Wallach was the director of special effects and hired me to assist in the shooting of 35mm time-lapse of the deconstruction of the lower Manhattan model fabricated out of Ikea boxes. The time-lapse was played in reverse to give the appearance of the city constructing itself. The footage was designed to work as a match dissolve to actual time-lapse of the real lower Manhattan which we also shot on 35mm film from the same camera angle which was shot before the miniature stop motion/time-lapse could begin. We also shot the time lapse of the Ikea store facade.
Music is "The Kingdom of Nye" by The Woggles.

"Drink Me" by Lisa Barnstone

A film directed by friend Lisa Barnstone, this beautiful pixilated animation is loosely based on the story of "Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carrol, and was shot entirely on B&W Super-8 film. It features Lisa's sister Gabriella Barnstone as the stop action actress and includes music by The Butthole Surfers. I created the DVD for her film a few years back and still have the archive of the digitized files. Song: "Hurdy Gurdy Man" written by Donovan Leitch. An animated short film created with students at The New School in my Experimental Animation Workshop. We shot with a 16mm Bolex camera in Washington Square Park, single frame pixilation on B&W film and added colors and effects by contact printing the Bolex footage through an Oxberry onto color stock.

Created as part of an Experimental Animation Workshop that I taught at The New School in NYC. The group was mostly foreign exchange students from Korea. We shot single frame pixilation with a 16mm Bolex camera on B&W film stock in Washington Square Park. I took the B&W film shot with the Bolex and contact printed it as A & B rolls, bi-packed in my Oxberry Animation Stand Camera. This process was how the students added all the color and other animation effects to the original B&W pixilation. I then processed the color film three different ways to varying effects. Music by Enya
