"Music Animation"

This was a recycling of my House of Guitars, Record Breaker character (see 3 post prior to this one). I transferred my original colored pencil on paper artwork to traditional cel paint animation on clear acetate, and then made opaque mattes of the character for double exposing in back-lit backgrounds and effects. Again this was me teaching myself the film animation and photographic effects process. This was strictly a test and never used in any commercial context

This music video directed and animated by Carol Millican features composer, sax player, singer, songwriter, Norman Salant and mixes animation with live action. The instrumental includes both tenor and soprano saxaphone. The animation, shot on 35mm film on my Oxberry camera, is a combination of top-lit hand-colored xerography on cels, and back-lit effects matted and double exposed into the scenes. Digital compositing and editorial by Post Perfect. Dance choreography by Linda Hayes.

Music written, performed, and produced by Norman Salant.

From my third year teaching "Experimental Animation" at Pratt in 2003, this film is an installment of the Compositions in Collaborative Chaos series shot first with a Bolex camera and then reprocessed and enhanced on the Oxberry animation stand. Made from the 16mm film shot for "Trouble" by my 2002 Experimental and Stop Motion Animation classes at Pratt. The film was enhanced by processing it through an Oxberry animation stand camera as a bi-packed contact print. New animation was added via a random methodology I call collaborative chaos. "Animated Camera"

This animated film is a showcase for all the diverse creations by the continuing education students of my "Animation Camera" class taught at The School of Visual Arts in NYC during the 1990's. Each student in the class was required to complete one 2-D animation on the Oxberry camera and one stop motion animation with the Bolex.
