The Visual Music Village

for Visual Music Artists, Writers, and Venues

During the early seventies, while teaching in Calgary (Alberta, Canada), I saw a remarkable performance by the Toronto Dance Theatre during which a dialog between various instrumental voices was made visible in the most convincing and moving way (I seem to remember that David Earle was the choreographer of that beautiful piece).
When I heard this D Minor concerto (especially its Adagio) on the radio, I was immediately brought back to that very pleasant memory, and I had to "play" with it and make this sketch.
It seems that as I continue to explore this medium ("visual music," "time-art"), old habits developed during my decades of working with natural media are once again finding themselves at home: it seems to me that there's no better way to "integrate" an experience than to lend it one's hand and eye, to live with it, and if lucky, to become "one" with it.
I used to think that it was a way "to make it my own," but I now suspect that it is more akin to letting it take over, and make itself (visible) through me...
And just as it was during my natural media days, I am far more interested in a way of working that is like a "normal" (or "daily") breathing than in a focus on "special pieces for special occasions" (as for festivals and such).
So, this is a sketch, this is only a sketch...
